Welcome to Sandlot League

Sandlot League began at The Field of Dreams in Wabash, Indiana, because a few coaches wanted to give children another opportunity to play baseball.

There was no grand launch and no complicated plan. The gates opened on a Sunday evening. Children brought the gloves they had. Volunteers helped where they could. Teams were divided that night, and baseball began.

Why Sandlot League exists

The regular baseball season can end while a child is still eager to learn, play and belong. Sandlot League was created for that child.

No standings. No tournaments. No drafts. No pressure. Every child plays free.

Instruction happens during the game. Children try positions, learn situations and receive another chance to discover what they can do. The goal is not to build a winning record. The goal is to make sure they want to come back next Sunday.

Why Wabash will always be home

The Field of Dreams is the birthplace of Sandlot League. Wabash remains the Original Chapter and Home Office—not as a marketing title, but as a way to preserve the truth of where the story began.

If official chapters eventually open in communities far beyond Indiana, each one will trace its origin back to that first field and the people who opened its gates.

What this website will preserve

This website is the permanent home of Sandlot League. It will record stories from Sunday evenings, preserve the history of the Original Chapter, share resources with parents and volunteers, and carefully guide communities interested in carrying the Sandlot Way home.

The organization may grow. The reason it exists should remain simple.
