The Handbook

A field guide, not a rulebook.

The Sandlot League Handbook records the format and customs developed at the Original Chapter. It exists to protect the atmosphere, help volunteers and keep each Sunday familiar without making the game complicated.

A typical Sunday

• 15 minutes: Warmups
• 15 minutes: Skill stations
• 15 minutes: Situational baseball
• 60 minutes: Sandlot game

Coaching and feedback continue throughout the evening in a fun, low-pressure environment.

Teams and positions

Teams are divided each evening according to attendance, age and experience. Children may try different positions. The purpose is participation and development, not building a permanent roster.

Pitching and pace

Use a new pitcher each inning when possible. If five batters come to the plate without three outs, rotate the pitcher and keep the game moving. Protect arms, confidence and the pace of the evening.

Coaching during play

A coach may work behind the mound to help call balls and strikes. Field coaches teach positioning, decisions and situational awareness while the game is happening. There are no umpires because instruction matters more than argument.

The final rule

Make sure they want to come back next week.

This handbook is a living document. The Home Office may refine it as the Original Chapter learns, while keeping the Sandlot Way unchanged.
