The Sandlot Way

Keep the game simple.

The Sandlot Way is not a complicated system. It is a promise about what matters when children walk onto the field.

• Every child plays free.
• Everybody plays.
• Everybody belongs.
• Teach during the game.
• Encourage more than you criticize.
• Do not build pressure where none is needed.
• Make sure they want to come back next week.

What we leave out

No scoreboard. No umpires. No standings. No tournaments. No drafts. No All-Star drama. Those things have a place elsewhere in baseball. Sandlot League exists to provide something different.

What we keep

Warmups. Skill work. Situational baseball. Teammates. Coaches. Dirt on a uniform. A good throw. A first hit. A child trying a position they have never played before.

The culture matters more than the logo.

The coach's job

A Sandlot coach is there to teach, protect the atmosphere and keep the game moving. Winning the inning is not the assignment. Helping the child is.

When a difficult decision comes up, ask one question: Will this help the child want to come back next Sunday?
